UTDB to hold roadshows in Gujarat from Jan 16 to woo local operators, ET TravelWorld News, ET TravelWorld

Intending to promote inbound tourism into Uttarakhand from Gujarat, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB), govt’s autonomous body, is organising roadshows in various cities of Gujarat.

The multi-city roadshow starts today in Rajkot at the Imperial Hotel and will continue till January 20. According to the sources, around 40 local trade/tour operators from Gujarat will be attending the Rajkot event today.

Apart from Rajkot, UTDB will take the roadshows to Ahmedabad (Hyatt Hotel), Vadodara(Marriott Hotel) and Surat (Marriott Hotel) on January 18, 19 and 20, respectively, expecting an attendance of about 40 to 100 operators.

As a part of this promotional campaign, UTDB has invited the operators from the Tour Operators Association of Uttarakhand and IATO (Indian Association of Tour Operators) Chapter – Uttarakhand to participate in the roadshows and exhibit their product offerings while interacting with the local tour operators.

To promote sustainable tourism, officials suggested promoting log huts in place of permanent hotels, presenting the history and heritage of the place in a nicer way, development of local craft, engagement of local community, ensure tourists do not exceed the carrying capacity of a place and development of a tourist destination in phases keeping in mind the environmental design considerations.

To shortlist the list of exhibitors, the tourism board had requested both associations to forward up to 10 nominations, including a mix of operators from various regions promoting different tourism activities such as adventure, wellness, Astro tourism, agro stays and more, as per the sources.

Besides, UTDB will also provide table space at the above-mentioned city venues for meetings with the local travel tour operators.

“Around 20 operators are participating from Uttarakhand,” shared Sunil Rana, Chairman-IATO Uttarakhand Chapter.

He added that Uttarakhand Tourism will soon have more roadshows and other promotional activities spread all over the important markets. “Uttarakhand Tourism is coming up with an aggressive marketing campaign and this roadshow is one such initiative. We, as an operator of Uttarakhand, congratulate our tourism department and thank them for their purposeful steps,” Rana asserted.

Apart from the B2B meetings and engagements, the city-wise roadshows shall include a presentation about new tourism products and mall activations (started on January 15) by UTDB, followed by dinner.
